Tom Gilmore chats to the Eurovision star who is re-releasing her 1975 Christmas smash hit

 

Ireland’s first Eurovision winner Dana admits that irrespective of where she spends Christmas this year it will be a Cold Cold Christmas for her for the second time in 50 years!

That’s because she has re-released “a reimagined” new version of her hit Cold Cold Christmas which at one point, back in Christmas 1975, was selling a phenomenal “up to 50,000 copies a day”.

“Cold Cold Christmas zoomed up the charts around the world 50 years ago and I even had a version recorded in Japanese.

“The original is still played on radio stations every Christmas but I really hope that people will give this new version space and that the radios will play it also,” she added.

“Our son Robert suggested that I should mark this significant anniversary of Cold Cold Christmas by re-releasing a slightly different version,” says Dana.

She was only 18 when All Kinds of Everything was the Eurovision winner in 1970. Dana had many other huge international hits after that including being co-writer, with husband Damian Scallon, of another mega-hit Lady of Knock in more recent times.
